About 30 years ago Hedley, his wife Mary and his elder daughter Katie, visited the Niah Caves in East Malaysia.
They started their journey from Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan. They started their journey in the early morning, they traveled by car, ferry and small boat, and they finally arrived at dusk to the government guest house.
When they entered the caves they saw some men climbing the bamboo poles in order to scrape birds' nests off the roof of the caves, because they wanted to sell it to the Chinese, because Chinese think that it is good for their health when they make it into soup.
The next day they returned to Brunei after lunch.
The good thing that happened to them in their journey is that they were able to watch the people climbing the poles for the nests, and the bad thing about the journey is that Hedley damaged his car by accident and the reverse gear didn’t work but they managed it.
